Who. What. And why.
Who. What. And why.
NPBR is a volunteer-based organization that provides a sanctuary for boxers in need. Our coordinators live in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa and our volunteers live across the three-state region we serve: South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. Founded in 1998, we’ve formalized our program, established a Board of Directors, and have operated as a federally-recognized non-profit business since 2007.
Boxers come to us in many different ways: shelters, breeders, strays, and from owners who need to rehome their boxer. We provide the boxers in our care with a loving foster home environment as well as the basics every dog needs: veterinarian care (including spay/neuter), basic training, and behavior assessment. NPBR boxers spend at least two weeks with our experienced foster homes and most importantly, we work diligently to find our boxers a permanent, forever home by carefully matching them with an adoptive family.
Everyone at NPBR loves and respects boxers; we’re owners, admirers, and students of the breed. Many of our boxers come from difficult backgrounds, so our goal is to find them a lasting and loving home. While we understand you/your family are looking for a great pet, our boxers’ needs are our top priority in both foster and permanent placement.
We at NPBR all have busy lives and busy dogs—so please keep this in mind when asking questions or sending an application. We'll reply as soon as we can, and we look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for considering a wonderful rescue dog!

Boxers who land in rescue generally end up here at no fault of his/her own. The dog’s backgrounds can range from breeding facility releases, strays, neglect or the very common, owner-surrenders. In any situation, this can be a very hard transition for the dog and most cases take time, understanding and overall TLC. NPBR also accepts Boxers who may have a disability, like partially or full deafness, and other cases.
Boxers who come into NPBR’s care will receive basic vetting, one-on-one care with their foster homes, basic training and a loving place to stay until a forever family is chosen. Our foster homes are dedicated and loving places for our Boxers. NPBR is extremely thankful to past, present and future fosters who open their heart and homes to this extremely loving breed.

Foster Homes are vital to our program; they help our boxers adjust to and become prepared for a permanent home in a loving family. NPBR will always need long-term and temporary foster homes. Please visit our Get Involved for more information on how to foster.
